When challengers of sound-to-print or linguistic phonics approaches hear about the rapid results these methods provide, they often dismissively say, “But there’s no research for that.” Well, they’re wrong. Using the lens proposed by Stanovich and Stanovich (2003) for evaluating educational significance—student achievement, experimental research, and theoretical alignment—we’ll explore the strong yet under-recognized body of evidence supporting linguistic phonics approaches.
