Reading Accuracy and Fluency: Tailoring Phonics Instruction for Students with Language Difficulties
A Talk by Liza Hutton (Speech pathologist, DSF)
About this Talk
Student success in any learning area is highly dependent on a student’s level of literacy and it is now well-understood that phonic knowledge is integral to the development of accurate and fluent reading. Ensuring that students with language disorders (or difficulties) acquire this vitally important foundational skill is crucial and often becomes one of the goals of Tier 3 intervention. In this session, Liza will review several of the more successful strategies typically used in 1:1 intervention and explore their value in both Tier 1 and Tier 2 settings. Adopting these strategies will be useful for all students but of enormous benefit to those students with language difficulties.
